Moon Pups, There's Pups On The Moon
Apr. 21st, 2015 10:05 amMonday night was another one of brewdog's tasting sessions, this time focusing on Belgian beers. Unlike sessions of the past, there was another couple there while we also brought Max, Shao and Stray with us for some beer sampling.
We started off in Wetherspoons, where we grabbed a bite to eat and waited for everyone to arrive, with rush hour buses INTO town being their usual batch of delayed fun. Shao arrived from Sheffield far earlier than we did, but I got there for 6:15pm, 15 minutes later than advertised, with Stray and Wolfie following about half an hour later. After a pretty good BBQ hog burger and a couple of pints of real ale, we headed over to the tasting session where we got to try a range of Belgian beers from Geuzes and Krieks to more traditional Saisons. I've started to like Saisons more recently although their unique sweet clove taste can be somewhat overpowering, while my preference was for the fruity sour beers, particularly those with cherry flavours. Considering Max didn't like beer, he enjoyed all of them and I got him a BrewDog sample flight too. W sampled some TNP and StB while Stray bought some Paradox Compass Box, one of the most fantastic blended beers ever created. To round off proceedings I grabbed an IPA from the excellent 8-wired brewery with Wolfie getting a barley wine from Stone. The talk by Caz, one of our favourite bar ladies whose name I only just learnt last night (I rarely use names really), was very fun and informative while the new Scouse bar lady was great fun too as I told her all about ourselves and our BrewDog loving ways. It was Caz's first ever beer night tasting talk and she did well, particularly with her map of Belgium.
Shao got particularly drunk, which was noticeable as I walked him back to the train station. Despite it being a school night, the four of us opted to stay until closing and get a taxi as we all live in roughly the same area. Normally we go home on the last bus if it is just us, but with others and good times, we wanted to extend the experience. A good move but I'm feeling a little lethargic this morning, plus I spent far more than I intended to last night. Still it was all good fun and it was in the spirit of generosity, and with such a beautiful day today you can't really complain.

Date: 2015-04-21 08:20 pm (UTC)A Stone barleywine? Can't fail to be delicious. =:9 They're definitely one of the top Californian breweries, for me. I wonder if they make a cask conditioned Arrogant Bastard.. that could be fairly knockout. ^_^
Can't say I took to Wetherspoon's idea of pulled pork. The meat was okay, if a bit on the mean side, but that gloopy sweet sauce wasn't very pleasant.
I'd go along with staying to the (delicious) end, too. ^_^ When there's a good time with good company, it's worth bearing a degree of sluggishness the next day. Those kinds of times are so worth it.
No Westvleteren Abt.12, I take it? =:)
