Plushes

Just out of interest, how many plushes do you own and what animals do you have?

I have always been interested in plushes, ever since I was a kid, but unfortunately my parents banned me from buying any more as they feared I would drown amidst a sea of plushes. They even confiscated some of them too and stuck them in the attic.

But now I am an adult, I am free to buy what the hell I want and this includes furry friends!!

I have a giant lion called Leo that an ex bought for me, a giant easter bunny, Bukkake the Bear from a charity shop (£4 for a 3ft bear, bargain!!) and a vast array of wolves, foxes and dogs. Of course, being a husky myself I have a natural fondness towards canids as they are just so darn cute!! Sadly I have yet to find any with pink stripes. Shame, they're missing a market there :P

Also, does anyone else get plush sympathy? That is, an overwhelming rush of emotion when you see a particular plush? Sometimes I go into a shop, spy a plush and just have to buy it because of the cute face or how it looks. I have also been known to buy two of the same plush because I liked the look of both of them and feel that if I put one back on the shelf, he will feel sad because I rejected him. I know it's silly but does anyone else experience this? Or am I just a nutjob?

Anyways, I currently have about 20 plushes. How many do you have and what's your animal(s) of choice?

i have hundreds, mainly froggy plushies, but i have many big dog plushes, as well as a giant stitch and koda (disney) plushies, i tend to go for anything that i can feel has a personality :)

How do you judge personality? Is it the way the plush looks at you, the dimensions of the plush or something more incorporeal? I dunno what it is with me but I guess it's a spiritual touching thing, which from an inanimate object (no matter how cute) is a little odd...

Plane plushies? How do they work? Can you buy cuddly planes? Cools. Dolphins rock although it must be hard to find dolphin plushes, it's certainly hard here (away from the Sea Life Centre or something).

i used to have loads, but my mum sold a load of them when i "got too old" for them, and i had to get rif of the rest when i went to boarding school and she went to the USA. made me really sad.

i have a bear my dad gave me (british airways bear, he got me on his way back from italy...eg he'd forgotten to get me anything while he was there...)
a bear my mum gave me (princess Di beanie buddie)

4 skunk plushies

a big gizmo plushie kiffy got me (that scares me a little bit)

want more...i tend to buy ones that feel like they want to come home with me...

Grr the age old caveat of "You're too old for plushes" - I got that too when I was a teenager and my mother wanted me to throw my plushes away too. Yet, I always caused so much of a fuss that in the end she relented - to part with my plushes would be too much to bear, I really think they are real animate creatures (being a pantheist helps here) and would feel devastated if they were to be disposed of. It would feel like the loss of a lover, it's that bad. Hey, I can't even leave them on the shelf.

A Gizmo plushie? What's that? That does sound scary if you take it to a sexual level, which, of course I always will.

Plushies are great, I hope you get a lot more, your collection sounds quite cool atm :D

hehe u can buy a green husky plush :P for 0£ :P

I know where I could get a green husky plush made very easily, hmm, may look into that, it would be cute. My parents thought there was something wrong with me too but they tolerated it thankfully. They still think it's odd that I dress as a giant plush at weekends though but meh. What would your family do if you came home with a plush? That sounds really harsh...

I have an obscene amount of GSD plushies :)

When I was last in Hamleys, I arranged all the GSD plushies that were left behind after I bought one in a manner in which they would stand out to prospective buyers :)

How many GSD plushies do you have? Surely there's only a finite number of varieties you can have. Don't you ever get bored with GSDs?

Well let's see. I have a large pink bunny plush, that's about a couple foot tall, a fennec fox, a tiger , a raccoon and a red fox. They're just on my bed. I have two fox plushies beside my monitor, I have a couple near my monitor at work, and I have one on my keychain. ^^;

dah, and I forgot the little kitty plush you see on my head in my icon. That came from a certain website. ^^;

I only bought it because I'm a big fan of Azumanga Daioh and it reminded me of Necokoneco from the comics. ^^;;;

back when I was with my ex, I had a whole ton of plushies over in America. Lost them in a housefire though, including an awesome TY beanie bat. :(

Aww the pink bunny plush sounds adorable. I love big plushes, indeed there's a place where you can get a 6ft plush and I kinda want to be wrapped inside it. That'd be cool. Although when you're drunk, giant plushes can be extremely scary so there is a pay off.

I love your keychain plush, I think that's the only one I have seen, it is adorable (but it is a little harsh, the way he is connected to the chain. Poor fox...) :P

I don't know how many I've got... might be 100 or so. I'm particularly interested in wolves, foxes and skunks, of course. :)

And yeah, I sometimes got that, but it's a pretty rare thing nowadays, although I suppose that's also because many stores just don't seem to sell good, high-quality plushies anymore. There seems to be a trend towards cheaper, more generic, less well-made ones...

Date: 2008-05-19 06:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
Skunks are an interesting one for an aspiring canid. I see the massive appeal of wolves and foxes of course, they're my main choice really. I agree that good quality plushes are either over-priced or ridiculously expensive but sales are good things. I got a giant Easter Bunny for about €8 simply because it's the week after Easter. Now all we need to do is derive a festival that celebrates wolves and foxes then we'd get loads of plushes! Yeys!!

I definitely suffer from plush sympathy. I've never gone as far as buying two of the same type but there's always a huge debate in my head about which ones on the shelf would be most capable of looking after themselves 'til someone else comes along to buy them.

Date: 2008-05-19 06:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
That is a constant worry, I have always felt sympathy for the runt of the litter and if I feel a plush can't defend for himself then I have to have him. Equally, I also think about the potential home that plush could go to. It could be a horrible chav home or a place where a baby will just drool on him. That's not good so sometimes I feel I have to save plushes from the evil world outside the toyshop...

i have a fair few plushies not sure of the count as they fill 3 black bin liners (big ones) as since i moved in at Ray's i got no where to put them.

on top of those 3 bags i have a very large purple unicorn plush (21st b'day present from an ex) and 12 other smaller animals around the room including my really old bear that i still take to bed some nights :)

mostly i prefer animal plushies over teddy bears and a lot of my collection are tigers, unicorns and eeyore ones as well as the rest being many other animals.

In my last house i had them all arranged on a big self which i plan to do with them again once i get the house sorted a bit more.

am going to be saving up to get a hand made tiger plushie some point. theres a women on one of my LJ communities that make the most beutiful plushies by hand and hand paints the fur and all.

Wouldn't being stuck in a bag kinda suffocate plushes? That sounds an awful way to go, being sat on by a giant fox, death by fur ass-phyxiation. Then again, perhaps not. I hope you get a chance to unpack yr plushes soon though, it's always great seeing them and giving them a cuddle.

Your unicorn sounds very interesting, I have rarely seen unicorn plushes (but I am a fan). I have always preferred animals over teddy bears, although I don't really know why. Perhaps it's because they are more realistic and I have a greater empathy with them. I find teddies a little to sterile and whimsy, and perhaps too mainstream. I dunno.

Your LJ lady sounds interesting. How expensive are those plushes? Sounds like a good investment, I would love to get a lupestripe plush done at some point lols.

I love that giant dragon plush, it's one cute furry deeley but it is also a little bit scary as it's soooo big. It's great to abuse though and to mess about with lols.

I once pressure sold a puppet dragon to a customer when I worked at the Early Learning Centre. I said he was the last one in the shop and he would be all sad and alone if she didn't buy him. Works every time :D

Unfortunately my plushie collection is limited. My first plush that I bought was a husky based upon a friend I liked. It's positioned so it looks like it has a broken neck thus was deemed broken neck husky at the two meets its attended. Manc May 2006 and Sheff in June 2006.

I also have a medium-sized wolf plush from a Nature store in newcastle, that's my biggest.

I has a skunky with a big tail floof and a whitetiger from Toys R Us and I have a white lion called Toffee from Interfauna, my plushie getting website n.n

I've had two foxes but gave them both away, gave away a black panther to Baggy and have given away a few white tiger plushes

sooo. i've had a few but with monies tight I haven't bought anything for me for aaaaages

Husky based upon a friend? This friend didn't happen to be a dog did it? I've never bought a plush on the basis of a friend but if a Fiox plush came out, I would be the first to buy. Aww poor broken neck husky - how come it had a broken neck? Was it a defect or was it meant to be like that. I'm glad it garnered sympathy but poor poor husky. How can he pull sleds now?!

Wolf plushes rock, does he speak with a Geordie accent? Does he have two "ayes! " and what colour are they?

Interfauna sounds a little rude whereas Toys R Us certainly doesn't. I dunno if I could ever give plushes away to be honest, I am too attached to them but I could buy plushes for others to give them. A Fiox plush you say? Hmm, I'll get looking... :P

I used to be so cruel to some of my plushies when I was depressed, pin them to the ground with knives. I now only currently have 5, I sleep with one of them, and can never sleep without that one.

NOOOOOO! You can't be cruel to your plushes! Poor plushes, I hope they are all okay now. I'm glad you've changed your ways and you love them now, I have a few plushes I can't sleep without too, they're very comforting to me and an escape from an imperfect and sometimes harsh reality.

Did the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Plushes come visit you, is that why you have fewer now? They are hot on plush abuse y'know :P
