Saturday was the final Leeds Meet of the year and I had feared the attendance would be low, largely on account of the weather but also because I knew a number of regulars had Christmas plans. I was therefore pleasantly surprised by the strong attendance, which along with the nutty brown ale from Nomadic (I love the fact that there is a new beer every month from this local brewery in The Old Red Bus Station now) meant I was in an exceptional mood all day. Indeed, I was incredibly bouncy although for some reason I got progressively more sober as the day went on once I had had the first two pints. Strange. Anyway, I got to speak to people to whom I rarely chat while Stray was in attendance with a ridiculous shirt, which was nice. He had brought a load of Christmas cards which I proceeded to steal every time one of my friends gave me a Christmas card. That was fun.
We didn't let the poor weather get in the way of our fun, even if we had to cancel the walk due to Storm Dierdie. Instead we improvised and hosted a number of games in the spare room upstairs, with musical chairs being the favourite. We did two renditions of this before having to retire to the fursuit changing area for the under and over game, where you pass a baton (and then the end of some plastic golf clubs we had for some reason) over and under the fursuiters who are standing in a line. It was good to bring something different to the meet and everyone had fun, so we will look to do this more regularly, particularly when the weather is inclement.
I spent most of the latter part of the day with Stray, Ottercon and Ki Saro, with Shiro initially being with us but then departing around 5pm. Once the meet was over, we headed to Pizza Fella where we got lucky as a party of six just cancelled as we were leaving the premises, after we had initially been told it would be a half hour wait. The pizza was as strong as ever and we ended the evening in Shuffledog where we got to try four more of the Twelve Beers of Christmas and we met two doggo friends - a husky who was a little evasive but ended up licking my face and a small curly black dog to whom Wolfie gave a meaty snack from the Brewdog bar, only for the dog to drop half of it on the floor. He was very silly. Anyway, it was great to spend more time with Stray and to chat a lot more with Ki Saro and Ottercon as we rarely get the opportunity. As we left shortly after 10pm, we certainly felt it had been a good day.
Today was a day of doing little - I went geocaching for a couple of hours in an attempt to burn off some of the beer calories from yesterday (I found three of six in the local area) before going to the gym to do a little more of that. I also got to play guitar a little and hang around with Wolfie, with whom I had spent most of Wednesday evening at the fantastic Feed restaurant down the road. This was after he had picked me up from Wakefield Kirkgate station at around 6:45pm and we had called back home as I wanted to convert some money into euros ahead of the result of Theresa May's Confidence Vote being announced. In the end, her victory had little impact on the exchange rate. This borderline Michelin-starred eatery changes their main menu every month and this time we had the chicken in truffle sauce, although we stuck with the same potatoes and carrots we had had back in early November as they were wonderous. The food here was as exquisite as it had been the first time and the waiting staff were incredibly friendly. One of them even commented on my People's Vote sticker on my wallet as I paid, saying she supported the cause and lamenting that we no longer had Gordon Brown in charge. This was perhaps a bit of a stretch but I could certainly understand her point - it would be a lot better than the absolute shower we currently have running things. Anyway, we were recommended the Sunday roasts which is certainly something we should do, so we're looking forward to going back there again in due course.
