Due to chronic oversleeping, we didnºt make it out of daisukeºs house until going on 4pm so we only had an hour to scooch across Lisbon to watch the match. The atmosphere was building nicely and on the bus into the city there was a carnival atmosphere developing, with many of the locals sporting the green and red of Portugal, ready to cheer on their national side against the Czechs in the European Championships.

We found our way to a local bar where there was a handfull of locals already watching the game. Sadly, due to us being twenty minutes late we had missed the opening two goals of the game (we had seen bits of the game on TV screens in hotel receptions and electrical shops throughout the city but we didnºt feel like loitering outside the Portuguese version of Currys for two hours) so with the score at 1-1 we settled down to watch the match.

The game itself was exciting and the beerhouse in which we were kept serving me a different Portuguese beer every time I asked for one. I think it was their own brew and even the dark beer (of which I am not usually a fan) was very pleasant. I also managed to grab myself some tremoços, a bar snack they have over here. It basically entails olives and a type of bean. They are very salty (they come free as after eating it they know you will want to buy another drink) but I made the mistake of increasing this saltiness by eating the skin of the beans. Apparently this was wrong (I was later told, contrary to Daisukeºs advice - he can be such a cheeky husky) so my second plate of them I ate without the skin. Apparently you are meant to bite one end of the skin and then squeeze the bean out of the skin and into your mouth.

In the game, Portugal were coming into it more after a shaky first half and they re-took the lead through the god that is Ronaldo. Being a UK football fan whose job is based around football, I have become quite tired of how the media loves Ronaldo so bloody typical that to get away from all that, I come to a country where everyone loves Ronaldo. Grrr. The science of sound was tested as there was a clear two second delay between Portugal scoring and the cheer going up around the mall, which I thought was quite cool.

Still, his goal was good and Portugal capped a fine display by scoring in the dying seconds, although the goal was so obviously offside I donºt know why it stood. Still, 3-1 to Portugal, theyºre now through to the knock out stages and I didnºt have an emo husky to deal with.

After this we decided to have a walk around Benfica stadium, Estadio de Luz, Daisukeºs favourite place and one of the greatest football stadia in Europe. I wanted to go to the Catedral do Cerveja, situated in its bowels, as the thought of a beer filled cathedral had me quaking in excitement but alas we went to Media Markt instead, where I bought some CDs. Being a Sporting fan, Daisuke spat at the stadium a few times before we went inside to go to that well-known Portuguese haunt, Pizza Hut. Well, we had wanted to go and try bacalhau com natas (basically a fish dish and a word I canºt say) which is native to Portugal. However, Daisuke was worried that I wouldnºt like it and as I am a vegetarian, it kinda brought my principles into question. I am vegetarian predominantly for medical reasons though (if I eat most meats I get chronic stomach cramps) so I think I will try bacalhau somewhere today.

Apart from that, we wandered around the mall for a bit. I was surprised that all the shops donºt close until midnight (and people think the UK is a developed country?!). We looked around Toys R Us for a bit, where I revelled in saying naughty English and German words loudly, knowing that no one understood me (immature I know) and I also played on a lot of the toys, both there and in a local sports shop.

Today is my last day in Portugal but as I have just got up, I donºt know what we are going to do with it. We had planned to go to Aquaworld but chronic laziness over took us. That and it wouldnºt have been too practical as it would have required a seven hour round trip to Faro in the south of the country and my flight leaves Lisbon tomorrow morning.

Finally, to the new furiends I added the other night, welcome. I hope you enjoy my random scribblings and it would be great to get to know you guys some more.

Aye it doesnºt seem that long ago, does it? It was great fun though and hopefully we can do it again real soon. Itºs sad that I leave Portugal later today but I am sure there is much more fun around the corner :)

Itºs great fun hun but Iºd rather be having a whale. Interesting that at the zoo yesterday they said that penguins natural predators are sharks and Wales. I thought surely the Welsh arenºt that bloodthirsty.

Am up at 8:30am today, having had only two and a half hours sleep. I already feel dead :(

Daisuke has already pointed a paw in the direction of your music - I must say it is very impressive and I hope to be ordering a CD in the very near future - we were singing some of your songs to the tiger enclosure at the zoo yesterday :)

Thatºs what I wrote! See!! *points a paw to my original message*

The woman in the cervejaeria looked quite affronted when I ate the skins, she wasnºt happy at all. Ooh dear.

Iºm glad you werenºt emo hun, even though, after yesterdayºs results, you are now likely to face Germany in the quarter finals anyway...

Erm, no. :P I don't know where I wrote cervejaria anyway lols so I will keep it as it is lol. There seemed to be a lot of rude people in the service industry in Portugal but the woman in the cervejaria was fine - she spoke English which always helped and I thought she was cool (apart from the me eating the seed skins bit).

Aww I will miss the boat and the circles for apostrophes. Thanks for the great time hun, I will miss you and Portugal too *hugs*
