I am having one of my restless days when I have largely been unable to settle. I had been hoping to write more of a story on which I am working before the summer heat becomes too unbearable, but I put too much pressure on myself and I didn't really get into the groove today. I think part of the problem was sleeping in really late, which has made me feel somewhat listless, but not even a walk in the sun has enabled me to get out of this funk. As usual, Wolfie is on VR tonight and I just don't have the spoons for it. I went on for ten minutes, struggled and logged off. I don't think I can face being social tonight.
This week at work has been much less fraught, but unsurprisingly, the Monday meeting was scheduled to Friday and that didn't happen either. I have been trained up in a new CMS though and it is looking increasingly likely that the new role is merely a sub-editing position. This is not the seniority I am looking for, while working the occasional weekend is not what I am after either. It may only be a couple of hours a few Sundays a month, but it will start to cause issues, and Wolfie has already made it very clear that he'll leave me if things seep much further. Right now, a few Sundays would be advantageous regarding our mid-week German exploring trip but it's not something I want to do permanently. If it's on my own terms then maybe it'll work but ultimately, it's another reason to leave this place. Hopefully, I can find something new soon.
Thursday was our regular Fureigners meet, but it was no longer in the Monterey as the bar has now closed down, with the owner harbouring dreams of opening a cat cafe. This means we needed to look elsewhere and it looked like it was beholden to me to suggest it. We ended up in The Castle, where I reserved a table for 10, but it was really far too small for that. In the end, I think about 15 turned up, all at varying times. Wolfie turned up an hour earlier than I, although he was worn out as he was initially going to go into the office but was thwarted by the trains, while I ended up having to stay late to be trained on the aforementioned CMS. The beer garden was surprisingly busy, particularly when a party from a nearby professional conference turned up, but the bar staff were nice. Indeed, as I entered, one of them asked whether we were furries so she clocked us straight away. By 9:30pm, we moved inside as the place was thinning out, but a number of our party thought the bar was too loud and thus not appropriate. I am happy to explore other places, but don't particularly want to be the one arranging things, so hopefully in July we can find somewhere. Most people had a good time though and it's location meant getting back home was very easy. We ended up staying out as late as usual, grabbing a doner box on the way home, despite not wanting to drink too much as hangovers the next day were not wise.
This was because on Friday we went to see Eisbrecher. This was meant to be last October, but it got postponed due to potential COVID restrictions. It was certainly worth the wait, although we did almost get absolutely drenched on our way there, catching a heavy thunderstorm as we left the U7 station and then missing the 248 bus. We did manage to hide under an awning while waiting for the next one though and the rain had stopped by the time we had reached the venue, the Columbiahalle. This was excellent for a gig and once we had gotten a beer in an Eisbrecher plastic glass, we settled down to watch the excellent Schattenmann. I quite liked them, but of course Eisbrecher were the stars, and we managed to grab a place on the side but near the front. I had been listening to the most likely songs they were going to play during the course of the week and I was largely right, managing to find a list from a concert they performed last month. This means I knew many of the songs they played, although I wish I had had more chance to become reacquainted and know the lyrics.
The crowd were really friendly apart from the one drunk guy who kept barging into Wolfie, who also seemed to be pissing off a number of other people in the vicinity. The start of the gig was largely watched through mobile phones and lead singer Alexander Wesselsky struck a deal after the third song - offering three separate poses (the Strongman, the Thinker and the Recluse) for people to take photos on the grounds they wouldn't take any more throughout the gig. Most people obliged, making the experience much better for everyone. They played for almost two hours, finishing much later than anticipated, while it was great that during their final bow, they threw a number of plushie polar bears into the crowd. Alas, I didn't get one of them. The crowd got more into the gig the longer it went on and Wesselsky is such a showman that he carried the whole gig. The lighting was great and fundamentally, it was a fabulous evening. The highlight for me, of course, was pretending to be Snooty Boy with my Eisbrecher beaker.
Afterwards, we decided to head over to Muted Horn, with the Neukolln bar only being ten minutes away by bus. We had to wait fifteen minutes for it, but soon we were there, and bought three packets of O'Donnell's crisps as they were on offer as they were marginally out of date. We had forgotten just how good this bar is and resolved to try and go there more regularly, with the quality of their 22 taps being particularly high. We wanted to be sensible as I wanted to write today, so we only had a round each, heading back home for around 1:30am. Alas, this was probably a little too late for VR and not early enough to go to bed, so yesterday evening was something of in limbo. It may have been why I have been feeling lethargic all day.
Another reason as to why could be a throat ache which is refusing to go away. It's affecting the left side of my jaw and is making my tongue all fuzzy, as if I have just burnt it on something hot. It's been two weeks now, ever since the fever, so I have booked a doctors' appointment on Monday. I am also taking some tests for sexually transmitted diseases after ConFuzzled - I don't think it's this, but I want to rule it out. Alas, they are the put the swab down your pee pee ones and I struggle to do this due to my hypersensitivity. One is negative though, while I'll take the second test tomorrow and see. I still haven't fully recovered from this fever though, although that's not a surprise as these things usually take ages to clear. Still, I suspect I may have a bacterial infection, which is why I'd like the opinion of the doctor.
