Another week of existential angst that has resulted in very poor sleep, either because I can't get to sleep in the first place or because I am woken up in the middle of the night and then can't get back to sleep. Fortunately, work has been rather quiet so I am still doing the things expected of me, while I am still dealing with the bureaucracy the system is throwing me in a timely manner. The main issue, of course, is whether we stay or leave Germany. I have written an in-depth missive which I will send to Wolfie detailing my thinking, with the hope being that as I have written it all down, it'll be easier to decide what to do. As January starts running out, I am tempted to defer the decision another month, but we have been kicking this can down the road for the last year now. There are pros and cons into doing both so there is no right or wrong decision, plus staying into May may not be a bad shout as it's a high holiday month, meaning Wolfie might as well get paid for doing less. We'll see whether we can work something out this coming week before I go back to the UK on Saturday.
Due to the tiredness, we didn't get to the Fureigners meet on Thursday, largely on account of me sleeping for two hours after dinner. This was a bit gutting, particularly as there was no way I was going to get to Qualgeist today, what with mental health being shot. Having had a bad back and arm over the last week has not helped too. Next week's bowling meet has also been cancelled, which is a shame. I wasn't going to go to this one as it's too close to my UK trip, but I do want it to succeed as having more social opportunities is always good. Right now, what with my UK trip and Nordic Fuzzcon, it's looking likely we won't be seeing anyone until March. This again emphasises the point that maybe we should just return to the UK and save money. It is cheap though, not doing very much, while I have now had confirmation of our visit to the Bundestag in March. This is something we've wanted to do for a long time and I thought we should squeeze in, just in case we do end up going back home.
The only other thing we have done this week was last night when we went into Spandau to try Medu. This is an Indian place in Wilhemstadt we had been meaning to try for a while. I fell asleep again beforehand and, needing to go to the supermarket too, we ended up getting there a little later than intended. However, for a Friday night, I was surprised just how quiet it was, even considering the fact it's January. The curry was average. They recommended the tandoori even though I ordered the tikka masala and the chicken was quite dry. I probably shouldn't have left it on the griddle for so long though. Wolfie's curry was good and they did ask whether he wanted it spicier, so he was pleased. The poppadoms were the weird thick ones they have here, while the garlic naan tasted more of burnt bread than garlic. Still, the meal was nice enough and maybe we'll go back when it's busier. After this, we headed to Plan B and Barfly. I had been to the latter with the Deck 5 neighbours about two years ago, but Wolfie had his foot issues. I had never been to the former before, which was a rather funky place with nice music and a good vibe. It was so full we had to sit at the bar, where we ordered Murphy's stout. I really wanted to stay there, but my back was hurting with the bar stool, so we went to Barfly, where we only had bar stools open to us too. Here we had a Kilkenny which was pleasant enough. This place is lighter and airier, more a restaurant with a bar in it than the drinks-focused Plan B. Both were good though and we may venture going back at a later date.
