How many of you would change your names by Deed Poll to your fursona's name? Given the chance, I probably would but it would cause so many untold difficulties that it really isn't worth it.

Has anyone actually done it?

I'd consider changing my name, at least, but it's basically impossible to do so in Germany, so... x.x

Is it? How come? It seems quite easy to do in the UK...

From: [identity profile] frost-t-wolf.livejournal.com
I did consider it at one point to have my name legally changed to Frost. After careful consideration however I'd like to keep something that separates my real life from my furry life that is very personal in nature to me, and that happens to be my name.

Most friends know and refer to me by Frost and that is good enough for me.

Date: 2008-08-17 10:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I need to keep my furry life separate from everything else I do, largely because of my job. Should it get out that I am furry then it could cause a fair few problems. It is this reason, above most, why I wouldn't change my name.

ok im being a smart ass.

For me, I dont think Id want the hassle of having a furry name and the thousands of questions it would bring up everywhere i go...I like the idea of keeping them seperate and distinct and only my close friends grok to call me it :)

Who was that by and how serious were they? Don't worry, I have no intention of changing my name - for a start it would completely ruin my life outside of the Fandom were I to do that.

Fated Snowfox did that last year, I think, well I know he changed his brith name to furry name.

Personally I wouldnt do it, too much hassle, it was bad enough going through the paces to chang from my maiden name to married name.

Date: 2008-08-17 10:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I was thinking of the link between changing your name to a married name and to a furry name. I imagine that being a lot of hassle and it's the main reason why I wouldn't do it.

Do you know what happened to Fated IRL? Did it affect anything at all?

I agree. I have a life outside of the Fandom that needs to be protected too. I feel a hidden husky but that's part of who I am - what my name is, isn't going to change that.

Your name would be a good name to have - indeed it sounds plausible in the real world. Still, I don't think your family would be too impressed :P

Date: 2008-08-13 11:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rustyfox.livejournal.com
I wouldn't do it - most people close to me call me Rusty anyway, which is perfectly fine with me. I also have a rather rare surname, which I used to hate but now rather like. (Even if nobody can spell it, despite it only being two simple four-letter syllables!)

Most people call me Andy when my name is really Andrew so in that sense, I wonder does it really matter what your registered name is or not? My name is relatively common though, which I do find annoying.

From: [identity profile] alexf0x.livejournal.com
Don't see the point my real name is Alex, and most people in fur fandom drop the "fox" part and call me Alex.

Besides I want to keep my real life and time in the fandom separate.

I think you share similar sentiments to me. Although we live in a far more liberal world now than we did even five years ago, for the sake of convenience and ease of living, it's probably best not to confess to being a furry.

From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
You WOULD do it? Cools!! I could change my middle name, I hadn't thought of that. That would be perfect as you rarely have to declare that. Or perhaps I could just change my surname to "Wolf", that could work too. Yeys!!

I am starting to like the middle name idea - I think that really works. I guess it depends on how easy it would be to operate in the real world.

Do you like to ask a lot of questions on every post? Why is that? =;)

In seriousness, I've looked into changing the middle name before, but given how anal some places are with proof of ID on original name, then having to deal with getting it changed to another one and proving the new name was just going to be too much hassle?

Date: 2008-08-17 10:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I love asking questions because I enjoy finding out things about people. It's always been an interest of mine and it's great to see the sociological and psychological make-up of the Fandom.

The hassle thing is probably the major reason why I wouldn't. It would be cool to do but in reality, I am lazy and can't really be bothered. My name is generic and I would like to change it eventually though, it is kinda dull and I am not a dull kinda husky :P

Done it, but not to a furry name, something that is a real name yet can mean something so me, aka Wolfgang. :D People just usually assume I'm german, I need to practice it more :P

Date: 2008-08-17 10:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I was thinking about this for myself - changing my surname to "Wolf" or something. That is plausible and could work in the real world too without many problems. My real name is too generic so it would be cool to change it to something more furry related.

From: [identity profile] tungro.livejournal.com
I wouldn't ever do it! For two reasons...

1) It'd be like cutting the ties to the family by no longer having the family surname... plus I'm the last male with my surname in my family tree!
2) I wouldn't want to have to explain to EVERYONE what my name was about...

Date: 2008-08-17 10:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
The family ties thing is a good point but my name comes from my father's side of the family, none of whom I have ever really got along with. My mother has re-married so she has a different name now and my surname is so generic that is bordering on the boring.

I agree about your second point though, that would be a pain in the arse and would be revealing far too much of myself than I care to admit in the real world.

Date: 2008-08-13 08:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] little-wolf1985.livejournal.com
Hell no! It would be rather silly, escpecially since my first name would be Little!

Date: 2008-08-17 10:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
You could always change your surname to "And Large". That would be scary!!

Hey, at least you get the Wolf side of things and would you need to explain your name? Hmm, yep, better leave it as it is :)

Date: 2008-08-13 10:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] loganberrybunny.livejournal.com
(Here via my friendsfriends list)

I don't think I'd do it, since I have nothing against my RL name. I have the advantage that (since I usually go by "Logan") my first name can be passed off as a non-furry one, but even so.

Date: 2008-08-17 11:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
That is a massive advantage. I suppose how you choose your furname is going to affect whether you can change it (or whether you would want to). My real name and my furry name are so far apart that I would end up having to do a lot of explaining - either that or lie and say that lupestripe was my real name and that I had been lying to them all this time...

I would like to do it, but it would be time consuming explaining, change everything on passport/driving licence/etc... , your family, costing a bit more on insurance because they do reconised you!
Well, more fun just because your name is cute!

Date: 2008-08-17 11:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
My name isn't cute lols!! I wonder if you could get discounts on insurance because of having a cute name. Hmm, that may be worth trying. As you say though, the hassle of changing your name would be one of the reasons why I wouldn't do it.

Date: 2008-08-14 05:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bluewoozle.livejournal.com
People call me 'Blue' anyway, so there'd be no need. Plus, the nice certificate that my university gave me saying that I'm mint at computer science wouldn't have my name on any more. (Also, I'd need to buy another bus pass)

Date: 2008-08-17 11:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
You got me on the bus pass. I know how difficult those bastards can be. Well, my name stays as it is. Plus, as you say, it would invalidate all my certificates - but then, could you say that that was my name then and this is it now?
