Scuttle Bastards
Apr. 17th, 2026 10:23 pmI've heard nothing on the work front, so I don't really know what the situation is. Until it's resolved, there doesn't seem to be that much to do, meaning I have been able to work on a few of my own projects. Indeed, it has been quite a productive writing week, while I have also been able to do more editing for Fenris Publishing too. Some downtime has also enabled me to promote my latest story, The Dying Day Was Still, which was published in The Howling Dead anthology, which was released on Monday. I wrote this back in 2023, so I'm delighted it's finally seen the light of day. I hope people enjoy reading it.
Tuesday was our flat inspection, with the Hausmeister accompanied by three other people. I think it had something to do with the warranty on the building, so they spent most of their time looking at the windows, doors and air vents. Alas, my German wasn't good enough to converse too much with them, so I ended up talking to the Hausmeister for most of the thirty minutes they were here. I didn't realise that was the Hausmeister until Wolfie mentioned it once they were gone, so I am glad I didn't say too much. He was fascinated about why we had air conditioners, with me telling him it gets incredibly hot here in summer. Indeed, today was the first day that this office hit over 25C and considering it's only mid-April that is a concern. We had spent most of Monday tidying the house and it's amazing how much bigger it feels with no clutter. It also feels emptier too, but I certainly have a far better piece of mind.
Thursday was the Fureigners meet and I was able to go this month. With 50 spaces due to the opening of the beer garden, it also didn't sell out, and while this area was akin to a smoky hotbox, I am glad I went. I had forgotten just how many people I knew in the Berlin scene and many wanted a chat, so it did feel like a fresh start. Sadly, Planke had to go pretty much when I arrived, but Al introduced me to his Italian friends (before going out for sushi) and I chatted with Fierce a while too. Note was there as well and she was incredibly happy, not least because I had spent much of the last two days editing an article about clicker training for her. I am hoping to resurrect the beer chat over the summer as it would be nice to be more social, although the hangover today after having just four beers, is arguably not worth it. I did get €5 off due to The Castle's loyalty scheme, so that's good though. Sadly, Wolfie didn't fancy it, which was a shame. I think it would do him good to get out of the house a bit, but I think he has a downer on the whole Berlin experience. I know that's quite an easy trap to fall into so I'm hoping a few more beer meet-ups will help.
This weekend is my last blank one for a while, and I am going to use it to do writing. I have to finish a story for the Furry Historical Fiction Society and I'm running out of time, so that's where my efforts will be. After this, I don't have a free weekend until June though, so I am hoping to make the most of it and relax too. This week has been another mix of being fine and extreme lethargy, so I hope I can shake it off with a bit of rest.
