I've just bought tickets to go and see Dylan Moran (of Black Books fame) and Andy Parsons (of Mock The Week fame) live in concert at Middlesbrough Town Hall in February.

I'm massively excited. I saw Moran in Cambridge in 2004 and he was one of the best comedians I have ever seen (even if he did slag off my home town).

Meanwhile, Parsons is a comedian I have wanted to see ever since he broke on to the circuit in the mid-90s.

I used to go and watch most of the famous stand-ups but like with music, I have become a little apathetic of late. Hopefully, this will kick start it again. There's nothing like a live performance :-)

Which comedians have you seen and which ones would you like to see?

ADDENDUM:
I have decided to see Ed Bryne at the same venue too. This means I will be seeing three comedy shows in the space of a week. Should be quite a fun week. Well, you need to laugh in February. It keeps you sane :-)

Dylan was great when I saw him in 2006 and I'll be seeing him at the Tyne Journal Theatre in February ^^

I also greatly enjoyed Mark Steel's lectures on the French Revolution.

Sounds like you'll be seeing him on the same tour as me - he is playing here on 19 Feb.

I have always wanted to see Mark Steel live - I like his brand of intelligent humour and the Mark Steel lectures are brilliant :)

Seen live? None of them. =:P

Would like to? True, he's no spring chicken any more, but Billy Connolly's still excellent. Peter Serafinowicz could be good, though I don't know if he's one for live stand-up.

Connolly was great when I saw him in Newcastle in 2001. I haven't seen him since but if you get the chance to see him - don't pass it up.

Would Serafinowicz's humour work on stage? I'm not too sure but I like his stuff :)

It's selling out quickly where I am and Glasgow may be worse. My brother recommends him (he saw him in London late last year) and if his 2004 show is anything to go by, I would say definitely get the tickets. Mine were only £19 so it's not too expensive either. Of course, I will probably review the gig on my LJ :)

Shame he's not doing Aberdeen hun - that's a bit annoying. I'm sure you can catch him some time though :)

Checking Chortle, there are quite a few. I notice that between now and the end of March you have The Mighty Boosh, Al Murray, Ross Noble (go see - excellent comedian), Rob Brydon and Ed Bryne (on the night before he plays here). Not too bad a selection.

Shame about Dylan though, although looking at his tour dates, it seems lucky that he is playing my home town.

I'd check the dates and see if they tie in regarding the Glasgow Comedy Festival. Certainly that is not the case for Ed Bryne as he is in the middle of a nationwide tour then. I am seeing him in Middlesbrough on Feb 25 - you should get tickets for the Aberdeen show.

TMB is okay but wouldn't really want to see live. Al Murray isn't my thing and Rob Brydon I can take or leave. He may be good but I probably wouldn't go and see him myself.

It's on a Thursday night in Middlesbrough (19 Feb) so if you want to come over then you can easily stay the night. Shame you couldn't get tickets in Manchester hun :(

Lucky, I love Black Books... I wouldn't mind seeing Dylan/Bill Bailey, that would be great.

I think Dylan will be swinging his way past Cardiff on this tour - check it out and go if you can - it is guaranteed to be a riot. Black Books is one of the best comedies of the last 15 years in my opinion - strong characters to which you can have empathy and a fantastically surreal and hilarious script. Win win :D

Ahhhhhh lucky bugger! You know, back in the late 90's but till about a year ago, everytime I mentioned Any Parsons I'd just get a blank look, but now thanks to Mock the Week he's everywhere! Huzzah!

I discovered him on a show called The Comedy Store on the Paramount Comedy channel back on Sky in about 1996. He did a hilarious routine about phoning random people when drunk, which was spoiled by the advent of 1471. The Mr Anthony Squirrel line always cracks me up.

Hope you get to see him hun, the tour looks pretty extensive, he may be swinging your way too :)

I got to see Rita Ruttner but it was a bit of a let down. I wanted to see George Carlin but he died ;\

I dunno who I would wanna see now, would need to think about it.

Have a look and see - I have fallen out of the loop with live comedy of late but the chance to see some of my favourite comedians at a venue that is only ten minutes walk from my house was too good an opportunity to pass.

I'm sorry to hear your previous experiences were disappointing - I guess that's the risk with live performances. I have seen some bad ones too.
