My dad and sister came to visit last night. We had a very enjoyable evening at The Wetherby Whaler, a local fish and chip restaurant of the kind that used to be in most towns and cities in days of yore. Everything was leaking - the teapot, the vinegar, the milk - but the food was excellent quality and huge portions too. The mushy peas were divine but then mushy peas always are. The fish had crispy batter and the chips were dry and fluffy. All served with tea, and bread and butter. A traditional slice of heaven. My sister was shocked at the size of things while the clutz of a waiter asked for our order before giving us the menus. Service is normally good there - yesterday was an off-day.

We then showed them the sights of our hometown, such as they are, before writing to our house for tea and chatter. They have visited before but had never looked around the town. It was the first time I had seen them since Christmas - the 80 mike drive is just too far to make meetings regular - but we had fun. They only stayed a couple of hours due to work commitments but it was a nice way to spend an evening.
