Intimidation

My German tutor made a very interesting point about me today - she said that the first time I met her, I was "intimidating" but she soon got used to me. She said I hadn't deliberately been intimidating, it was just the way I am. I wonder how many other people find me intimidating and whether this is the reason why I feel I don't fit in anywhere.

Difficult to say without qualifying why she finds you intimidating? Physically, mentally, personality wise? I'd say you're one of those people who are quite guarded about letting people get to know you, which some people can view as intimidating if they think it's deliberate. I'd suggest you're quite like me, in that you're the sort of person who maybe finds it hard to engage in the usual vacuous smalltalk that a lot of social settings seem to dictate, as you don't have any interest in banal day to day nonsense.

Sample conversation :-

"Did you watch X Factor last night?"
"No"
"What do you make of [insert celebrity gossip]?"
"Who?"
"Who do you think killed [character X] in [soap Y]?"
"Don't care"

That sort of thing. Musical taste is a decent indicator. Not in a purely metal sense, more just that it sits outside mainstream culture to a degree, so anyone trying to get to know you (or indeed me, or Shep) has no easy jumping on point. Dare I say we're very distinctive, hehe.

You can do fluffy and silly and carefree, but it has to be in a context you care about, not just for the sake of it, as pre-ordained fun probably troubles you.

All that's pretty accurate - I am sure it was partly dependent on whatever mood I was in when we first met, although from memory I think I was alright. It was after a hard day at work though so that may have been a factor.
