In these times of economic crisis coupled with the fact that it is January, it is very easy to be infected with a sense of gloom. So how do you cheer yourself up in times like these? Usually, all I do is try and achieve more, working my tail off but even that doesn't seem to be working very well at the moment. Any tips?

Hmm, good idea. Although at the moment, that might be nigh on impossible ;)

Buy (and read) a good book :)

I have loads of books I keep meaning to read, it's just finding the time to do it. I'm getting a lot done but crap seems to be filling any free time I have. May have to take your idea on board though.

1) Physical activity. Ride your bike (if you haven't got one, get one). Go to the gym.
2) Chocolate. Not great if you want to lose weight, but it works; for a healthier alternative, try fruits (such as Golden Delicious apples).
3) Hot baths. Nice and relaxing.

I go to the gym three/four times a week and it does work but I am often so tired before I get there, I question whether it is a good idea. In the end it normally is though as I feel reinvigorated after a good gym session. My home town is not great to be riding around on a bike hun lols.

I don't have a bath but the chocolate one seems a good suggestion. I kept meaning to watch a DVD and have a pizza on Monday evening but my friend dragged me to the pub instead. Was a good night but not the relaxing time I really needed.

That's difficult where I live as I don't have too many that are local. Also, a lot of my friendships seem to revolve around drinking and alcohol tends to make things worse really.

I usually just work really hard. Other than that, if it doesn't work, then I focus on those I care about and help them as much as I can. Good luck :) Take care.

That's what I try to do as it often blots out the negative feelings I often get but at the moment I am constantly tired and fear I am working myself into the ground. That's not good either, I need to find a balance.

For me it depends what is affecting me. But always a good conversation with friends makes me normally feel much better afterwards since sometimes it can help me tackle what is making me gloomy.

I tend to find it depends on the friends but then I guess that's normal. Plus I always have this fear that I am dumping my problems on them and that makes me feel guilty :(

Do some stuff you've been meaning to do for a while but haven't got round to doing.

For example, me learning to drive in the depths of winter :) Or sorting out your filing cabinet with music blaring from the speakers. Or watching that DVD you got two years ago that you've not managed to find time to watch.

There is so much stuff lols - I compiled a list at the back end of last year and of the 14 things I really want to do, I am currently realising 5 of them. I guess it's better than nothing I suppose. Wish I wasn't such a perfectionist though...

I really should do that - any way to get out of Middlesbrough, which is hardly green or pleasant. Thing is it's cold and dreary though. Perhaps I should just stop making excuses.

I like to go walking and try to find somewhere different I haven't seen before - old buildings, that sort of thing. I'm near the river and there's a place I like to sit and think. Failing that I seek company - speaking of which I'll have to see you sometime soon ^^

From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I used to do that but the problem with Middlesbrough is that it's not a big place and I have already explored it all. Perhaps that is my problem as I have always loved exploring. Not having a car doesn't help either :(

I usually just make sure I get plenty of light. Whenever you do get a sunny day try and be out in it as much as you can, keep the curtains open for as long as you can, turn more lamps/lights on than you usually might. It sounds silly, but it seems to work for me when the weather actually lets it.

Date: 2009-01-22 12:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I have heard that light works but have not really seen the benefits as of yet. I guess it's the type of light as on grey cloudy days I usually feel terrible. I may try it though as there is something in it :)

Economic crisis? No, not at all. In fact business is stronger than it has ever been. It is affecting a lot of people though and an indirect way that makes me feel down.

I am working on the living with someone I love bit - as soon as property prices become reasonable :)
