Sheesh! Never ask furries to tell you what to write on your LJ - you just get filth!! Anyway, by popular demand, you want me to write about rubber. Of course, I don't need to tell you that this may involve adult concepts.

I have been interested in rubber for about 10 years, since I first saw those really bad BDSM documentaries late at night on Channel Five (or FIVE as it's now called). I liked the look and I liked the anonymity that the material provided. It tapped into my submissive nature and I liked the idea of being an anonymous slave. To start off with, it certainly wasn't about the texture or the feel of the material but having worn a full rubber suit for the first time on 28 December, I can tell you that the experience is like floating. In fact, it has a similar effect on the body that transcendental meditation does, but it doesn't have the same mental effect.

Rubber suits come in different thicknesses. I bought mine from Cocoon in Digbeth, Birmingham but sadly the company may be relocating to Belgium, home of excellent roadside sandwiches. I could have bought my suit in four different thickness - .15, .25, .35 and .50. Of course, the thicker the rubber, the less stretchy it is. I liked the stretchy element as it's more hugging, it's lighter to wear and it also allows you to put on or lose a bit of weight without it really affecting anything. The really light stuff does rip easily and although it can be fixed, it needs to be sent back to the manufacturer for this and that was going to be a lot of hassle.

The suit I got was bespoke. I felt that it might as well fit properly if I was spending the amount of money that I was on it. It also enabled me to pinkify it and so mine is possibly the only rubber suit in the world with a pink stripe down the back. I am also thinking of adding other bits and pieces to it to make it look more like Lupestripe.

I may be going to The Torture Garden in February, where I will wear it. However, I fear that seven hours in suit could get quite hot. I was in it for an hour and it was bearable - but the sweat was only just starting to form. I fear seven could be a little too dehydrating. To that level though, one of the reasons I got an enclosed suit and not one with separate feet is because it allows the sweat to drip down and remain in the suit rather than all over the floor. The talcum powder that you need to put the suit on (which took me about half an hour) also absorbs some of the sweat whilst you are wearing it.

There are pics in existence, but only five. As the rubber was not made shiny, I am not going to post them online but if you could send me your email address (by PM - I am NOT screening comments to this post) then I'll send them to you. If you have rubber pics (or indeed any yiffy pics) that you could send me in return then all the better :-)

I hope this answers all your questions - if not, feel free to comment and I'll see what I can do :-)

It is freely available information so you can't blackmail me with it :P

Is there anything else you would like to know?

Cocoon aren't relocating per se. They're shutting the retail outlet and going exclusively online. There are several places in London that do rubberwear. House of Harlot is the one I'm most familiar with, but there's also Pretty Pervy and a couple of others.

The problem with that is their website is a car crash of epic proportions. I hope they can get someone in to do the company service as the quality of the products is fantastic. It's a shame the shop has closed down but, as you say, there are places in London. I must go to them next time I am there (which will be the next LF Meet come to think of it).

I have to admit, and it's no secret ; rubber always has interested me... but I haven't been using it IRL, though I would love to do so.

however, if I do so... I wouldn't get out to much with that.

maybe I'm just intrigued by how it exists out of the furdom

You should give it a go. It's fun. Why wouldn't you get out much with it though?

mmmh, mostly because that's the sort of thing I wouldn't do out of the house probably.

*nods* - with me, the rubber gives me anonymity so I don't feel shy any more :)

Sent the pics, hope you enjoy. The rubber fetish for me is completely independent of furry - it's just something I'm into, as I explained above. It is one of those things that once you try it, you may understand it more :)

They are - what makes them work, tick, operate, and the whole gamut of emotions that come along with them. A tremendously fascinating species to observe.

Sound interesting. But I imagine it would be difficult to wear, if not hazardous, in the warmer months. Would love to see pics. perri_rhoades@yahoo.com

You do need to be careful as it gets hot very quickly. However, you have to wear talc to get into it and this absorbs a lot of the sweat. To be honest, it's not much different to a fursuit - you just need to remember to drink plenty of water. Pics have been sent :)

Yeah, I'll bite - altaica at wn.com.au ^-^

Though my interest in rubber tends to be more the transformative/tentacle/slave thing you see in the fandom (such as rwolf's work)

Tentacle and rubber? Hmm, haven't seen that in the Fandom. Can't think of anything worse to be honest, but then I do have a fear of snakes. Sent the pics, hope you like :)

Cool cool. Rubber's pretty awesome. Definitely one of the things I have more of an affinity for, but I'm terribly kinky...

I am starting to develop a penchant for it, that's for certain. What else are you into, I'm terribly kinky too :P

I'm curious about the pictures... I'll send you a PM. :)

Mmm, and curiously enough, rubber was one of my first kinky interests, too, although I later on grew out of it again for the most part, as it were (and the tendency to rip did play a large role there).

Date: 2010-01-14 01:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I've sent you the pics. Why did you grow out of it? The ripping thing is a concern - it's always in the back of your mind, which isn't good :(

From: [identity profile] schnee.livejournal.com
Thanks, got them. :)

Hmm, apart from the ripping problem, I think it was mainly because I found latex to be not nearly as nice as I'd imagined it to be. Unless tailor-made (I assume), it tends to not fit well; you can't easily adjust it, it exposes every last gram of fat instead of mercifully hiding it (granted, not the latex's fault), it generally doesn't shine unless you spray copious amounts of shiner on it, it makes you sweat quickly and then gets clammy, and it just generally doesn't feel nice.

Well, to me, anyway.

Date: 2010-01-16 12:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I agree about the exposing every gram of fat part - that's one of the reasons why I waited so long to get a suit. In the end, I just thought fuck it. Don't know about shiner, you are probably right. As for the sweat and the clamminess, it's no different to that of a fursuit. In fact, it probably feels better than a fursuit, which gets heavier as you sweat.

Date: 2010-01-16 12:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] schnee.livejournal.com
But a fursuit won't stick to your skin the same way, will it? Well, depending on what you wear underneath, obviously, but I think a spandex undersuit or so would feel nicer no matter what. :)

Date: 2010-01-16 12:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lupestripe.livejournal.com
I find spandex can rub and chafe if you wear it long enough. No, fursuit won't stick in the same way but the general feel of a wet fursuit against skin I find worse than rubber against skin. The irony is that if the rubber is tight, there is probably less chance it will stick as it just hugs the skin, but then you are showing off your fat bits if you do that :(

From: [identity profile] schnee.livejournal.com
*noddles* To each their own... I just found that personally, I don't like the way that rubber feels.

It definitely is an acquired taste, that's certainly true.
